Hi All! The wife and I, along with our two dogs stayed in Townsend this weekend. We found a nice little cabin to rent, and drove around the area all day Saturday. I had deep roots there. My grandparents had a 59 acre farm in Grafton, my Aunt and Uncle lived in Brookline, and my Mom and Dad had a place in Brookline as well. Growing up, every weekend and holiday was spent in VT, working on the farm, or on our house in Brookline. Everyone is gone now, and the properties long sold off, so this trip was just a quick walk down memory lane. I haven’t been back up in decades. It is amazing how many things have changed, but others are exactly as I remember them. Here in CT, I can hardly recognize any of the towns I grew up around, so much has changed. I drove up to Grafton, to see the farm from the road (I would never just knock on the door and intrude on the current owners). Thankfully, the outside of the house has changed very little, and the land was the same. My grandparents farm had just about the nicest land I have ever seen in VT. It is almost entirely flat open fields. It would be heartbreaking to discover it had been broken up for rich New Yorkers summer homes. Knowing how liberal the state has become, I was not surprised by the number of Harris signs I saw. But it was interesting to see all the gay flags. I guess as a heterosexual, I will never understand the need to advertise who’s pink parts you are attracted to. Just you do you, and leave me out of it. It was funny to see a half a dozen geriatric hippies holding a pro-Palestinian protest in Brattleboro. Bless their little Leftist hearts. Sorry to ramble on like this. I am just feeling a little Nostalgic, and a bit sad over loved ones lost. |
