Looking to move from far western tidewater area to WVA. We're wanting to be in the eastern section, perhaps bordering VA. Looking for three bedrooms and two baths, plus at least two acres. I'm not concerned with schools since I won't have any school aged kids. I'd like to have a decent grocery store within a half hour and potential medical care within an hour. I want to live in a good area and don't want meth trailers within sight. Where would my WVA ARFcom patriots suggest we start looking??? Does WVA have any anti-gun laws that I need to worry about, coming from VA? Basically, my libertarian self and family, want to move to an area where we can enjoy life amongst like minded folks. |

First, WELCOME! We are very glad to have you and your family. Second, WV has the least restrictive gun laws in the nation, we even repealed sales tax on guns. Constitutional carry, campus carry, no bans. We rock. Past that, I am most familiar with western and central WV, so I will leave house hunting to other more experienced members. |

So you're looking at an hour west of larger cities like Roanoke, Front Royal, or Winchester. I'm in the eastern panhandle and the folks I know with chronic health conditions go to Winchester, VA or Hagerstown, MD not Martinsburg, WV. The I-81 corridor and area just west of Winchester is becoming a DC-like suburb as a lot of federal agencies (FEMA, FBI) have moved offices into the area, so Grant and Hardy counties are considered commutable to those jobs. Still, you can find plenty of available homes that aren't in the typical cookie-cutter HOA neighborhoods, or even some land if that's what you want. How much snow are you willing to deal with each winter? |

We're focusing more on east/central WVA, like the Marlinton area or there about. I don't want to be anywhere remotely close to anything to do with NOVA or commutable to NOVA. I really don't care about the snow issue as long as the roads get cleared enough for 4x4 passage. |

Its the geographic center of the state. Its weather is mild and snow is tolorable. It has a low cost of living, but isnt run down. You have easy access to plenty of shops and places to eat. You have sutton lake, bee run, a nice shooting range, the elk river, nice views. Near by is burnsville lake and summersville lake, as well as Charleston and Clarksburg. There is also Gassaway Days festival that is fun. |

You might find something in Pendleton County. One grocery store 12 miles out each way from me (so two). It's an hour to Harrisonburg and a Costco. Lowes, Homey Depot, ect Nice people here. Nobody will screw with you. |

First off Welcome to West Virginia. You’ll love it here if you want a laid back atmosphere. In Marlinton you’ll have cell service and internet, away from Marlinton you might have decent internet but the cell service is very spotty due to the Quiet Zone. Higher up on the mountain tops you’ll probably get good service. Around town you’ll have public sewer/water away from it you’ll have a well and septic. Pocahontas County is beautiful. Greenbrier County is not too far away and Beckley is probably the closest bigger shopping area. Don’t rule out Monroe County either. |

Anything near Summerville has a lot to offer. The whole east side of the state is quickly becoming DC refugee settlements. You're not alone. |

Currently live between Richmond and Williamsburg. However, NOVA is shaping the state's politics and it is not for the better at all. Thus the reason we will be seeking a more free state to retire to. | I relocated to Summersville county (Hinton to be precise) from the northeast. I live up in the mountains, but just 15 minutes from almost all necessities. just 35 minutes or so to Beckley or Princeton for the box stores. Land and property is relatively inexpensive. |

Just a little correction to avoid confusion... I think that you mean Summers County not Summersville County. Hinton is in Summers County. Summersville is a town in Nicholas County. |

It is rural enough to be relaxing but close enough to everything you would need especially an international airport in Pittsburgh. |
