Hey Y’all, my family is visiting your awesome state from Tennessee. We are staying bout 5 miles west of Olney, NW of Whitefish. Skillet fire is roughly 10 miles west of us, moving westward. However, looking at the weather expectations for today, Winds are gonna be blowing briskly out of the west. We are planning to bump around the whitefish area today doing tourist things. Other than general awareness, should I be more concerned? We’re debating taking our important stuff with us when we leave the cabin just in case any evac orders issued while we are out. I’m pretty good with reading, Tennessee weather, and knowing what’s up with anything that happens, your weather up here is an entirely different animal, and I’m not well-versed on fire behavior and protocol here. How quick could things degrade here? Or are we safer because fire will not move over already burned ground? |

| Check out the Watch Duty app. It has lots of info including current evacuation warnings for that fire. Looks like the area you're staying may already be under an evacuation warning. I would suggest being ready to bug out and keeping your stuff with you in case you can't get back to your rental. Read through the updates on the fire and you'll usually see what the firefighters expect the fire to do over the next few days. Pay attention to that. |

Watch Duty, general awareness and keeping your important stuff with you is all pretty good advice with an active fire in the area. Looks like the fire did some growing today and some areas are now under an evacuation order. Hopefully after this wind passes and it cools down it’ll settle down a little. It’s a weird year. Lots of late frost pockets screwed up some of the better known huck fields. Gotta have backups for your backups.
