So I’ve had my permit in New York since 2008 and now I’m trying to take advantage of nonresident permits in the northeast so I can travel as freely as possible. I submitted my mass nonresident application and they canceled my application and told me to resubmit because the NRA safety course I took years ago is not from a “approved instructor”. Frustrating because in addition to having taken the NRA safety course, i’m also an NRA certified pistol instructor. I’ve also taken the 18 hour New York safety class for my NYC application but mass won’t accept any of those. Are there any instructors in mass (for a fee) that will provide the basic firearm safety certificate on the account of all my other trainings? Not trying to game the system, just trying to take advantage of all of the certifications I already have and not having to take an entire weekend to travel 4+ hours, take a course I’ve already taken, and then drive 4+ hours back. If that’s what I gotta do then I will do it because in my mind, I’m not going to be part of the government narrative that says we made it available and nobody wanted it… and pretending that the entire process isnt a pain in the ass by design. I'm a MSP certified instructor in NH but I would never just issue "paper" under any circumstances. Go to the following webpage, ~1/2 down you can DL the PDF of all current instructors who gave FRB permission to be listed and you can search for those in NY. I found that 7 such instructors are listed. You will most likely have to take another course and you could take Basic Firearm Safety that runs 4-5 hrs with the MA law portion included. https://www.mass.gov/info-details/firearms-safety-instructors-certification-program |

Sorry, but that is issuing "paper". The reason that the instructor must be MSP certified to teach the NRA course is that we are obligated to teach MA gun laws (which are unlike any other state) as an add-on after the standard NRA course. There is nothing "reciprocal" in MGLs wrt to firearms laws! Some states accept instructor credentials in lieu of training (ME is one of them), FL and MA are two states that I know this not to be the case. However, you may find an instructor closer to where you live to avoid traveling 4 hrs each way to do the training. |

Find a semi local instructor and get the class done ASAP. Confirm that the instructors MA credentials is up to date and not expired. With the new MA gun laws a bunch of people are not renewing because it’s not worth the headaches. |

I saw a few people on Reddit saying that their initial interview is being scheduled 6+ months out. I renewed my LTC last September for a February expiration date. I got I back in just over a month. My buddy sent his in October for a February expiration date. He didn't get his LTC back until almost mid April. |

The other thing is that when we (meaning a Mass BFS instructor) sign a certificate and submit the course report, we are certifying that the student named on that document successfully completed the training (i.e. the course listed, on the date listed, at the place listed....) |

My last in person renewal appointment (about 2 years ago) was an almost 7 month wait. |
