I’ve taken carbine 1, pistol 1, and pistol 2 at Vortex. I can honestly say that I developed more in 1 day at carbine 1 in regards to fighting rifle style shooting there than I did in 4 years as a Marine infantryman. Pistol 1 and 2 were outstanding and my first formal pistol training. There’s pretty much one instructor for every two shooters and they will spot check and adjust you to get your grip and stance dialed in. All of the instructors are top notch and really go out of their way to tailor the drills to each shooter. I’m actually going in a few weeks to the 2 day performance pistol class. In contrast I took a carbine 2 class with Rapid Defense last summer and it was a complete waste of time. The instructors never actually demonstrated any of the drills we shot. There were about 20 shooters and 2 instructors. Because of the rules at the range it was hosted at only 1 person could shoot at a time, the instructor would move down the line with a shot timer have the student shoot the drill and say good or maybe a 2 second critique. Unless the person shooting was clearly lost there was almost no feedback given. |
