If you are talking about acquisition of handguns in HI, then your retired police ID should be accepted by HPD as proof of prior firearms training but you still have to do the waiting period. Only active LEO get that waived and even then, not all agencies get it waived even though they carry firearms on duty. If you are talking about carrying concealed then consult the HPD website. They have a section on LEOSA. I am not a LEO so i didn’t bother to read that site well but i remember it said that our handgun mag restrictions apply to LEOSA carry |
| Only exception for retired LEO is Leosa, which HI complies with only because they have to. There is a training exception for acquiring a handgun for LEOs, but I'm not sure if it applies to retirees as HI makes everything more difficult. |
