Under LEOSA, retired LEOs need to demonstrate proficiency with a firearm once a year and carry documentation to prove it, along with your LEOSA card. In the Anchorage area, are there any LEO agencies/trainers that can conduct an official and recorded state qualifications course of fire for a fee? I still have family in Washington State and on the east coast, so this why it is necessary. Thanks! |

You could ask Joe at Phalanx Academy (https://www.phalanx-academy.com/). He runs courses that are approved through the Alaska Police Standards Council. If anything, I'm sure he'd point you in the right direction, especially if you just need a generic State Agency qual (some are far easier than others). He's a great guy and in my opinion the most knowledgeable instructor in the state. Or just call the Alaska Police Standards Council (https://dps.alaska.gov/apsc/contactus) and ask. My agency's range often has random groups doing certification quals, I'd imagine some of those you could just walk on... with prior approval. | Ive contacted my local troopers station and gotten my LEOSA qual done by them and they signed the form from my department and I just emailed it in. They had me run their standard qualification course which is pretty extensive, longer shots, malfunction and reload drills, from retention definitely more stringent than most retiree quals. |
