I found this on Gateway Pundit.  I thought you might be interested in what's happening in Pacific Palisades.  Or should I say, not happening.

Despite all the talk by Bass, et all, this is exactly what I expected to happen.

RED TAPE: Hundreds of Residents of Pacific Palisades Choose to Sell Their Homes Rather Than Rebuild After Fires

by Mike LaChance Jun. 5, 2025 10:20 pm

Following the horrific and incredibly destructive fires in southern California earlier this year, hundreds of residents of the Pacific Palisades neighborhood are opting to sell their homes rather than rebuild.

For months now, various people have predicted that this would happen because the bureaucratic red tape in California is a nightmare to deal with, not to mention the exorbitant costs.

It is absolutely awful that so many of these people find themselves in a position where they’re unable to rebuild homes they have lived in for years. This is all on the Democrat leaders of the city and the state.

The Santa Monica Daily Press reports:

Hundreds Choose to Sell Rather Than Rebuild After Palisades Fire

Nearly 300 Pacific Palisades residents have decided to sell their properties rather than rebuild following devastating wildfire damage, while fewer than 100 have begun reconstruction efforts.

Sotheby’s International Realty reports 273 properties in the area are currently listed for sale. Most carry price tags exceeding $1 million despite many being reduced to empty lots. In less damaged areas like Ridgeview Country Estates, homes are selling for more than $10 million.

Access restrictions complicate the sales process. Much of the Palisades remains closed except to those with special permits, forcing potential buyers to purchase properties sight unseen. Pacific Coast Highway, the main access route, has been closed since the fire, creating lengthy detours that significantly extend commute times.

For residents choosing to rebuild, the process proves challenging and costly. In county areas, only 10% of damaged or destroyed homes have submitted rebuilding applications, with just one permit issued. Within city limits, 23 permits had been approved as of late April, representing a 2% rebuild rate—half the number of those opting to sell.

I don't know if better or worse in the Altadena area.  This kind of bureaucratic nightmare in an environment which must be screaming that oversight from other politicians, gadflys, press, etc., is going to be intense, suggests that any new "buyers" ae maybe looking for frustrated firesale prices.  For future resale?  Building seems a multiyear process so no one, I'd thi8nk is buying now expecting to actually get a place to live quickly?

They were called "carpet baggers" when they did this in the South after the Civil War.  The term has been adopted into the popular lexicon, is still used and is still valid.

I feel sorry for the people whose homes burned to the ground, but unfortunately voting wrong or not voting at all has consequences.

Trump is already on record that all the federal hurdles for rebuilding have been met, all that is left is the Calif and local city codes. Karen Bass doesn't seem very helpful, and so I am not very optimistic that the residents of Altadena and Pacific Palisades will be able to rebuild anytime soon.

One of the three reporters that worked on the Watergate scandal at the Post lives in the Palisades. His house burnt down. He definitely got what he voted for.

It's not about R vs D, but about competence vs incompetence. For some odd reason, liberals prefer incompetence.

What sucks about their extremely poor voting practices down there is that homeowner insurance rate increases are skyrocketing up in Northern California. My neighbor's premium went up 50% recently. I think she said she had Farmers.

Please post a summary of that, as I cannot get past their cookies "wall".

I read that, as of a few days ago, fewer than 100 applications to rebuild have been submitted.

I have been waiting to hear more on this but have found no other information.  link to article
