I am looking at new jobs, and I am in talks with an employer in the Quad Cities area. Tell me about shooting ranges and gun culture around the area. I realize Illinois sucks, so I would live in Iowa. Are SBRs and silencers now legal in Iowa? I have read conflicting things given the older laws. Machineguns are still illegal right? I shoot IDPA, steel, USPSA and when feasible 3 gun. I would love to have access to a range where I can shoot beyond 300-600 yards. Thanks |

Constitutional carry, SBR, SBS, Silencer's all legal. Transferable machine guns are not legal. We've been trending in the right direction over the past decade but more pro-2a voters are always very welcome! I moved to central IA from the IL side of the quad city area in 2017 and have no regrets. |

Grew up on the rural Iowa side of the Quad Cities and lived there through my early 40's. Great area, Davenport itself can get sporty. If you move to the area look in the Eldridge and LeClaire areas. If you have kids then defiantly shoot for the North Scott or Pleasant Valley school districts. Bettendorf would be my thrid choice. Not up on the current ranges and match/competition availability. I have family that farm a ton of land in that area so I always had access to land to shoot on if needed. But I also had 24/7 access to the PD's range since I ran it for years. The area has tons of firearms knowledge. Between the Rock Island Arsenal and all of the different gun manufactures in the immediate area you can find an expert on most topics and talk to them in person. Plus the RIA who have some of the coolest guns pass through their facilities during their auctions. Check out the firearms museum at the Arsenal if you get the chance. As for traffic, working on one side of the river and traveling to and from home on the other side is usually not a problem. You have five bridges (if you count the arsenal bridge which is the least dependable) to choose from to get across. Traffic doesn't get to terribly bad like some larger metro areas. The airport is easy and quick to navigate through security if you have to travel for work. They are slowly getting better on more direct flights. |

I think the best range in the QC is on the IL side unfortunately - https://milanrifle.club/ There's also Oak Hill Gun Club in Blue Grass. I'm only aware of one range in the area that goes past 600 and that's Rivoli Rifle Club in New Windsor, IL. It goes out to 1,000 and it's about 30ish minutes south of the QC. |

Behind a pay wall so I can't show the whole article. Sounds like a new long range shooting area by McCausland, Iowa. I am going to assume this is near where the old skeet and trap club is located. New public firing range to open near McCausland DNR to close Princeton range and expand programing at new site Mark Ridolfi, NSP Managing Editor Posted 11/20/24 A new public shooting range is scheduled to open just west of McCausland with 20 bays for short-range handgun practice, and 12 bays for long-range rifles at a site that has been a private range for decades. |

Wow, the old Princeton range is finally closing . I grew up shooting at that place. It was scary forty years ago, I can't imagine it ever got any better. |
