My last renewal was in Oct of '21, so this shouldn't be compared with today, 4 years later... but I'm still totally flabbergasted by the timeline. I applied for renewal online at 7:15am on a Monday morning (which just happened to be Columbus Day). My new permit was in my mailbox on wednesday!!! TWO DAY turnaround! How in the actual fuck did that happen? Date of issuance on my new permit was the same date as applying, and the envelope was postmarked the next day, tuesday (post offices closed on monday, but they probably had it late monday ). And it got to the northwoods from Madison in a single day, by USPS? That's a record all by itself.  Compare that to my original permit. Applied on Nov.1, 2011 (1st day possible), and didn't receive it until around Dec 10th.

I did pass both State and Federal background checks around the same time that I filed the CCW application. I assume the State DOJ uses the same database for CCW apps as they do for handgun background checks so I'm wondering what the hangup might be. |

OP here. I called the DOJ this morning, was told that it was mailed 07/14. They are mailing a replacement. I asked if it was possible to have it mailed to an alternative address, thinking my local pack n' ship store. Was told that they would but only on written request. Understandable, so they are sending it here and I'm hoping for the best this time around. The problem may (or most likely) was that the original got "disappeared" by the Other Resident here. Would not the first time something like that has happened. It's like actual witchcraft! Long story but life ain't easy here. |

Mail theft is both a state level and federal criminal offense, (18 U.S. Code § 1708). I would leave some notes to that effect where this "other resident" can see them. You can also go to your local post office today and request a 5 or 10 day "vacation hold" on your mail. That way the post office will hold all your mail for "in person" pick up there, at the end of the timeline requested. Your permit replacement should arrive within a week or so. |

No problem with mail in general but she has her OCD nose into everything here and probably got "triggered" when she saw the orginal CCW card. I explained that it's completely legal and that I was going to get it one way or another. I called the DOJ Wednesday, 08/13, and received a "duplicate" card yesterday, 08/15. Great service from the DOJ! The BS here runs a lot deeper than just the mail issue. In 2010, I got into an arguement with the Other Resident. I was arrested and have lived with the black cloud of a Disorderly Conduct/DV conviction since then. I lost my FFL and my gun collection. In 2012, under supervision by 2 ATF agents, I had to inventory and sign my entire gun collection over to the O.R. It's still here, in one of my adult son's safes but I haven't seen any of it in 13 years. The (2023, IIRC) Wisconsin Supreme Court decision regarding the Disorderly Conduct statute cleared the way for getting out from under the "prohibited person" cloud. To "test the system", I paid a local FFL's transfer fee to have him run both NICS and Handgun Hotline checks, both of which passed. Getting the CCW permit is "icing on the cake". I don't plan on carrying but having the permit is a nice "Plan B". I might make a copy, frame it and hang it here in my room as a trophy. Next: dealing with the Other Resident(s) regarding the gun collection. |

I knew about the 'pick up at end of hold period only' part, and said so in my post. But the 'not seperate for individuals' is a change from previous procedures. I worked as rural carrier for 15 months back in early 90s, and I did that exact thing a few times, for unmarried room mates when one travelled a lot for his job. I'd sort out just his, everyday when I sorted the mail. Sometimes he'd have it held for pick up when he returned. Or on extended trips of a month or more, he'd have his mail (and his only) forwarded to where he was staying. But... that was 30 years ago. Mail was hand sorted by the carriers in the post office before they started delivery back then. Probably done by robots now.

Possibly more brain-washing from Mom, who told me "You're unstable, and you shouldn't have a gun." and probably told them the same. This whole thing is such a pile of shit! Instead of "Hey, 72 y.o. Dad can finally enjoy a hobby activity that he's waited years to engage in.", it's more like "screw Dad, all he's good for is providing for us." And I haven't heard anything about returning my gun collection that my son has cared for. She's pissed off (more than usual) about the change in my gun-owning status. I wouldn't be surprised if she went to the same female ADA here in Walworth County, still there, that prosecuted me in 2010 and cried the blues to her about it, hoping that I get charged with something else. I got a bunch of shit in a thread I started in GD a while back "Can I dis-inherit my family?" but that is one of the few options available at this point. I should have bailed out 30+ years ago when the crazy started to show. |

She probably opened the letter from the DOJ with the card, got triggered and destroyed it. Maybe I was remiss in not telling her that I had applied for it. After assuming that "something" happened to the original, I explained the situation to her and got across that I was getting it one way or another. She was actually somewhat complacent when the duplicate arrived. Speaking of: A bank envelope with $200 "disappeared" from my picnic cooler/lunch box last week. Pissed me off but also got a laugh because the envelope was marked "$900" but I had spent $700 of it already so she didn't score what she thought. Did I mention "dysfunctional"? |

I received the duplicate 2 days after calling the DOJ. Initial problem was an "internal issue" here. "Witchcraft" is a real thing! Mister PX: IIRC, we both attended a Tactical Rifle course years ago with Sully. Again, IIRC, you did a demo of bump-firing. |
