Haven’t sold a handgun to another resident since I moved here. Confirming I’m reading the laws correctly, in that as long as I know the other party is not restricted from owning the handgun, there is nothing preventing the private party sale and no paperwork is required by local, state or federal entities. Do I have that right? FYI—I do understand that a NICS check wouldn’t hurt since they don’t have a CCW. |
| Confirm South Carolina resident like you (since he doesn't have CCW then Driver's License works). Ask him to confirm he is not a prohibited possessor. Verbal confirmation (and some common sense) is all that is required. If you want to do NICS, Bill of Sale. etc. that's up to you but not required. |
