Moved here about 15 years ago. Dayton is a hodgepodge of areas. North of the city like Tipp & Troy are pretty good, south like Kettering and Centerville are nice areas and seem to be “newer.” Generally anything immediately west of I75 is kind of sketchy. I75 always has construction. Where are you applying to? |

I retired from machine trades in Dayton area and have a couple friends that own shops near Apex . |

Don't do Trotwood, got robbed 3 times in one year. People that are used to living in populated areas will have a different outlook. |

One of the last Montgomery County towns before you hit Preble County is Brookville. Excellent school system if you change your mind on homeschooling. Lots of newer homes being built. It definitely has a small town feel. And it has one of the best locally owned gun shops in the area. The commute to Wright-Patt wouldn’t be awful. I know of a few servicemembers that make the daily drive. I’m sure there are a few people on here that can vouch for the town being safe and family friendly. |

The LGS JJ gun supply owner was my sons boy scout leader along with his own son that was in my sons class. He is very up on all laws, especially NFA. I have bought several cans from him. He doesn't work the counter anymore, store use to be at his house. |

I see that looking back. That job site should allow you to stay off 75 for commutes. Any of the smaller towns west of Dayton would probably suit you for rural life. But as Dale said, avoid Trotwood. This area had me sold when every other house had a “Keep It Rural” sign in the yards when we visited. We moved here from Tennessee and haven’t regretted it at all. I wish you well on the journey! |

Brookville "keep it rural" is people not liking all the housing plats being added. Shooting ranges. My house is 40 yd, covered and good back stop. Private club near Boston, IN west of Eaton. Takes me 30 minutes from Lewisburg. 0-25 pistol, 50-100 rifle, 200, one day a week 300. Club also has a indoor, not sure if you can shoot centerfire pistols. It's down the road from outdoor. Old Trails Rifle and pistol club. OP, around New Lebanon is similar to Germantown and on US35. A few miles west you can be in Preble co on 35. If you like outdoor activities going east of Dayton on 35 around Xenia would put you closer to SE Ohio. I drive 2+ hours to SE OH at least once a week for my dirt bike club. Xenia would cut 45 min off that. |

I can also vouch for JJ’s. Cool knowledgeable group of people. Used to shoot USPSA with the owner. Brookville is a nice area. Others would know more about ranges local, but I’m a member at a private club in Oxford (about a 30 minute drive from Brookville). 7 25x25 yard rifle/pistol bays and a 200 yard rifle range. |
