A buddy asked me for help with registering his recently inherited firearm collection from his deceased father. - Michigan resident - Non CPL holder - Both long guns and pistols I'm assuming since he's a non-CPL holder, he must stop by the local cop shop and obtain an RI-010 for each handgun. But I know the water is muddier now with long guns. Any clarifying insights would be appreciated Thanks in advance |

Since the State changed their rules on long arms I seen several instances where the family has no clue what Michigan law is. They handed off the firearms to family and friends. I can't chime in on the handgun portion since I've always had a CPL for when I purchased handguns in this State. As for the long arms, I believe there is still no Unconstitutional requirements to turn in the filled forms. I'm not sure what the PoPo does when someone without a CPL shows up to get the purchase permit, but as for the CPL side its just like the RI-60 with a sell copy and a buyers copy of the form. Personally, as long as the long arms, weren't NFA or Mi registered as hand guns, I would not worry about the forms. I wish I could offer better step by step advice on the subject. |
