In a near miracle effective 1 July 2025, if you purchase a vehicle that doesn't have a front license plate bracket you are no longer required to display a front plate. They're still going to issue you two plates, because everything can't make sense...but there's going to be no more drilling or expensive specialty brackets. Hard to believe, but true. I just bought a new car and was going to eat the tickets.

Granted I live and work in some of the most rural Idaho has to offer but I don't think I have a front plate on any of my personal vehicles or my farm trucks and I have never gotten a ticket or even heard a word said about it; I didn't even know it was a law. ETA: I have pasture for winter grazing in Utah and I have been hassled about it there but I told one cop "well it's not a law in Idaho so....." and he let it go. |

TITLE 49 MOTOR VEHICLES CHAPTER 4 MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION 49-428. Display of plate and stickers. (1) License plates assigned to a motor vehicle shall be attached, one (1) in the front, if the vehicle is equipped with a front license plate mounting bracket, and the other in the rear, with the exception of the following: My Corvette came with the front bracket in the trunk. Probably technically I should run the front plate. |
