My girlfriend's mom died and she needs to transfer the title to her car at our local SoS. Their website doesn't mention anything about walking in and waiting. The one nearest us has long been "show up and wait", and she needs it done ASAP just to have it done and over with. (For emotional well being reasons. Mom's death has been difficult for her.) It'll be a lot more useful if she could just walk in and wait Monday morning. They don't do that AT ALL anymore, do they? |

| I think they may, but give those with appointments priority. I had made an appointment for a vehicle title transfer a year ago, messed the date up and went in a week early. They took me anyway. |

Did that a couple months ago. Walk in and wait, as said above appointments get priority. They only called up walk-ins when the queue cleared. 1st time only 30 mins, didn't have enough paperwork Came back same day, waited 1hr til close, sent home empty-handed. Next day waited 1hr, walk in line never moved and still had 6 ahead of me, gave up and scheduled an appointment. The clerk doing walk-ins was offering appointments a day earlier than what was available online, FWIW. |

JB, does your AO have a suburban 'small branch?' Those have great for me with walk in service. The jumbo warehouse locations seem to be a train wreck. Examples of small locations. Chelsea and west lansing (grand ledge). They take appointments but if you go early they get you in. Lord I miss the transition from Richard Austin to Candace Miller. Went from a shit show to 'what it this well oiled machine' |

Our isn't shouting, but they set up a little kiosk right inside the door to check if visitors have an appointment. If not, they help schedule one. I've only been once since this change, to register a trailer I bought, but it was much smoother than previous times. There's a line, but it's only 3 or 4 people and it only took a few minutes each time (I had to go 3 times, as I didn't have the right paperwork or something). |

Here is the trick. Set up an appointment online for the closest time you can find. It may be weeks out. Then go back to your appointment and edit it/reschedule it and look for a closer time even in other branches that are worth the drive. You will find that people are always dropping appointments and this is your chance to snag a closer one. Do this every day to evaluate if you can get in earlier. Switch if you can to the closer appointment. There have been many times when my first appointment was three weeks out, but I was able to reschedule to one that was only a day or two out. One time I even got one in a few hours. |
