Planning on visiting my daughter who is attending UNR for PA school. Don't have a non-resident CCW for Nevada. My understanding is that open carry is legal for non residents. My question is how common is it and will I likely garner unwanted attention? Prospective carry guns are S&W Bodyguard 2.0 or S&W Shield Plus. |

I've seen it but not recently, would say not common. I'd do car carry and leave it at that unless you feel a need. With a caveat that since you will be at UNR... I'm recalling a story about UNR cops that leans hard into their zero tolerance policy, It went something like a guy, probably a ccw holder called 911 and at the direction of the dispatcher pulled off the street into a parking lot that was on UNR property. He was met by Reno cops and UNR cops who arrested him. The Reno cops had to put a lot of effort into convincing the UNR cops to unarrest him since he unknowingly crossed on to school property when they told him to. It just an anecdote I remember but I doubt things have changed and I'd recommend not taking any chances with having a gun anywhere you might cross onto school property which might look like random public or private property in the area. And yes the homeless are bad. I occasionally transport patients to Reno and when you stop for lunch you have to be careful to lock up the ambulance or they will raid it for drugs.
