Where can I learn about them? I am sn Indiana Resident and in my truck I plan on carrying a cold steel trail master which has a 9.5 inch blade. Is this a legal issue if I pass into IL with it in my vehicle? What about Chicago? Say I drop someone off at the airport, do I need to remove it from my vehicle first? Thank you! |

TBH Illinois' Knife Law knife law is pretty vague. Carry of 3" prohibited on public property. In Chicago change that to 2.5". Other local jurisdictions may or may not have their own restrictions. The exception to length requirements is "for work purposes". A lineman or landscaper carrying a well worn fixed blade will attract far less scrutiny than a guy in a SS uniform carrying a Nazi dagger. Automatic knives are legal with FOID. It isn't clear for out of state residents. Oddly enough double edged blades are ok as long as they meet the length requirement. With all that said, intent is key. If you are up to no good, a motivated cop will find something to charge you with. |
