A friend of the family has invited me to hunt his property for whitetail. His property is in Region B according to OnX. Is it too late for me to apply for a license? He doesn’t know much about the process so I figured I’d ask here before I dive into another states confusing website. Thanks Gents |

You can buy a license that day at Walmart. You will need a hunter’s safety course unless you had a MD license by some date. Price will be your States non-resident if higher than Maryland’s price. Best I could help. It was free so you get what you paid for. |

The license and deer tag is not like WY, in the sense that there are no lotteries or quotas except black bear (western MD), and you can buy a license and deer tags online at any time. You'd need proof of hunter education, unless you sign the affidavit and held a license before July 1, 1977 ("some date"). You can buy your license online (https://compass.dnr.maryland.gov/) and print it yourself, or you can visit a sporting goods store or Walmart here in MD and get one. If you get the standard/general NR license, it will cover firearms deer. If you want to bow hunt (crossbows are OK) or hunt with a muzzle loader, there are additional "stamps" required. Archery and muzzleloader provide additional/extended seasons and if you hunt with all of it, our "deer season(s)" runs from mid-September to the end of January. If you are a senior citizen (over 65 when you buy the license) or have been awarded the Purple Heart, license costs are less. When you visit the license purchase site, you can pick the appropriate licenses. Seasons and deer regs start on page 16 here:https://www.eregulations.com/assets/docs/resources/MD/24MDHD_LR.pdf I don't know what you plan to hunt with or when, but we have various firearms rules by county, so ask you friend what you can use on his property if he's not providing your implement(s). Region B has very liberal bag limits and most places have an abundance of whitetails. Most western shore counties in Region B are overpopulated with whitetail deer. The southern counties of the "eastern shore" have Sika Deer in the salt marshes, which are harder to hunt and less numerous. Good Luck., I hope you whack a few!! FWIW, I'm probably going to put in for a WY pronghorn tag this spring and if I get it, will hunt next season with a buddy in Cody. I took two in Gillette in 1981, but haven't been back since. |

Hey, really appreciate it guys! @303_enfield @eshell That really helps, sounds like it’s not too complicated. He’s got a fantastic property that borders over 10,000 acres to the north in Delaware that are completely wild and to his south is nothing but hundreds of acres of corn… with his property right in between. The bucks he’s pulled out of there were quite shocking to me, I would have never imagined you guys had deer like that there. I definitely consider it an honor to hunt this place and really looking forward to it. Not far from Ocean City, so if any of you guys are in that area let me know… going to be a great hunt to break in my new to me Ruger No.1 Mannlicher in .243 And eshell, I’m in Cody a good bit to shoot, let me know if you draw… good luck!

There were a couple decent bucks taken. I’ll post some pics when I get on my computer. Had an absolute blast though and got the invite back for next year… Plan on going for 5 days. No one really hunts much during the week so it’ll be pretty quiet. They hunt exclusively from blinds and on corn. There was snow the last morning so I got to see where a really big aggressive buck completely bypassed their stands and scrapped the shit out of the ground in 6 places on his way to his bedding area on unhunted land to the north. I waited for him to come out at the property line that night but I think he’s smart and comes out late. Im going to get him next year.  The guy who invited me is an awesome dude and one of a kind… so I gave him the head of the bull in my avatar, he now lives on the east coast in style in the coolest hunting cabin I’ve ever been in.
