NY 2026 deer season

Anybody else get out for the early doe season? I filled a 7J tag this evening on a small doe. What I thought was interesting was that as soon as I reported the harvest on the app, my 2nd buck tag and another 7J tag appeared instantly. NY is serious about decreasing the deer population, where it is needed.

Hunting seasons now account for a full third of the year.
I understand that there are fewer hunters now but it makes it tough for the rest of us who want to be out in the woods that part of the year

New York is now running into a deer issue here on the north shore of Nassau County. The deer population is exploding as there is no hunting allowed (bow hunting would be the only possible way to hunt around here due to the dense population but laws would have to be changed) and there are plenty of estates and forests for them to live in. Over the last 10 years or so many roads around my area have had deer warning signs pop up where none had been before. Near me at the Nassau County Art Museum and Preserve there are many deer that populate the woods. It is not uncommon for me to see them despite the population density surrounding the museum grounds and there have been a few road kills over the last two years. Animal activists are staunchly against any kind of hunting and prefer people give up their gardens for things deer do not like.

My cousin lives on the South Shore and hunts little patches of cover between houses. He kill some really good bucks because they are not pressured like upstate.

Interesting to hear how the reporting/second buck tag worked. With any luck I'll be testing the system in about a month.
