Figured it would be best suited to start our own thread now since we are one of the states that do not get to enjoy the big win. So as I read it as of now here in GA we are in limbo. Yes you can own a NFA item as long as it is NFA approved. But ownership of a traditional NFA item without NFA approval is illegal. Below is the law that I was able to find on the topic. GA Code § 16-11-122 (2024) No person shall have in his possession any sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer except as provided in Code Section 16-11-124. The code section it refers too.. This part shall not apply to: (1) A peace officer of any duly authorized police agency of this state or of any political subdivision thereof, or a law enforcement officer of any department or agency of the United States who is regularly employed and paid by the United States, this state, or any such political subdivision, or an employee of the Department of Corrections of this state who is authorized in writing by the commissioner of corrections to transfer or possess such firearms while in the official performance of his duties; (2) A member of the National Guard or of the armed forces of the United States to wit: the army, navy, marine corps, air force, space force, or coast guard who, while serving therein, possesses such firearm in the line of duty; (3) Any sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer which has been modified or changed to the extent that it is inoperative. Examples of the requisite modification include weapons with their barrel or barrels filled with lead, hand grenades filled with sand, or other nonexplosive materials; (4) Possession of a sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer by a person who is authorized to possess the same because he has registered the sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer in accordance with the dictates of the National Firearms Act, 68A Stat. 725 (26 U.S.C. Sections 5841-5862); and (5) A security officer employed by a federally licensed nuclear power facility or a licensee of such facility, including a contract security officer, who is trained and qualified under a security plan approved by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission or other federal agency authorized to regulate nuclear facility security; provided, however, that this exemption shall apply only while such security officer is acting in connection with his or her official duties on the premises of such nuclear power facility or on properties outside the facility property pursuant to a written agreement entered into with the local law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over the facility. The exemption under this paragraph does not include the possession of silencers. Amended by 2024 Ga. Laws 389,§ 3, eff. 7/1/2024. Amended by 2006 Ga. Laws 767,§ 1, eff. 5/3/2006. GA2A was trying to get out ahead of this earlier in the year and I thought it actually passed but turns out the Rhinos let it die. Was SB499 and only targeted suppressors from what I have read. LINK to SB499 This link shows who voted for the bill and what happed. So it seems that all we can do in GA is wait till 2027 and hope the Rhinos get their head out of there ass, and our Governor stays republican. I don't see any other avenue as of right now to get this removed. Think the best thing to do is get behind GA2A and hope they put something together that changes 16-11-122 or complete removes it. That single code is what screws everything up just from what I was able to dig in and see. Probably best to look and and see what other states have done to change this wording. | They aren't going to do anything for us. If the state were planning on letting us have the same rights as other free states they wouldn't have entered the suit as a plaintiff under the caveat that only state government personnel can enjoy the no form 1 policy. We were (tax paying citizens) specifically singled out for exclusion. Only the privileged few can partake in constitutionaly ensured rights in Ga apparently. |

Think Frank Ginn was the sponsor for sb499 that would have gotten us out of some of the headache we are in now. I’d say he would be a good start. Link to his page. Link I also asked chat how many times in Ga the Governor has called for a Special Session of the general assembly. Since 2004 it’s happened 8 times. Some of those emergency related such as COVID and hurricane. Others are tax or redistricting reasons. So I seriously doubt that he will call it for something so minimal. I know it’s not minimal to us. But you get what I’m saying. |

It will cause it to be a 2A campaigning issue in the middle of the governor's race so political calculations will come into play. It might be an issue worth trying to get Jackson to push with Kemp. It's not something the general public will really care about but it's more the symbology of the fight. |

Well re applied for a f1 sbr last week and was approved yesterday so about a week for a F1 trust. The disapproval I received last week was a little over a month in the making. So it appears they are processing forms faster. Could be since most states are 4473 and carry no F4 are being submitted so less work flow. |

I've been trying to get people to join for 15 years. IIRC, back then the yearly dues were $12. They are the only reason the have the good carry laws we have now. They even had to go against NRA over one issue. |
