So my kids (ages 12 and 16) very much want to rifle hunt and I'd love nothing more. I already plan all my vacation around hunting season. But I need to get my kids into firearm safety/hunter safety. Can anyone explain to me exactly what class I need to sign them up for? I see that "All persons born after December 31, 1979 are required to possess a firearms safety/hunter education certificate in order to purchase a hunting license to hunt in Minnesota." Is firearms safety part of the same class as hunter safety? Then I see there's the firearm's safety hybrid course. Does that include hunter safety? I presume that's a shorter class because the student will be doing most of it on-line. Have I got that right? Any tips anyone may have on how to make this as painless as possible is highly welcome. |

My son did the hybrid. It's an online course they have to pass. Then they need to go to a field day. There aren't a ton of them and you need to get on it early. https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/safety/firearms/index.html My son did his at oakdale gun club, I don't see it on the list above. If you live by there I'd email them. I had to email the guy that runs it and schedule a class. |
