Hello everyone! My wife and I moved here at the beginning of the month from AZ. I took a retirement package from my employer, and she accepted a job here. She's originally from the area, and all the "kids" and grand kids are spread out from Middletown to Lebanon. So, I had a few questions.... 1. Is there a good independent shop for vehicle repairs, inspections etc. in the area that I can rely on? I have a 2017 Acura, and a 2015 Kia that will need periodic stuff outside of oil changes. I had a great independent mechanic back in AZ that I had found through local 2A board, and hope to find someone like him here. 2. Shooting clubs - I was pretty deep in USPSA as SCSA. I was a USPSA match director for 3yrs before we moved (also a current NRA RSO, it was a requirement of the club to be a USPSA MD). I found West Shore Practical Shooters and Lewiston Pistol Club on FB, and was wondering if there are any other clubs I should consider to scratch my competition itch? 3. Are there any local 2A enthusiast websites/forums for the area? I had a couple prior to moving (even modded on one for a while), and hoping to find something that is locally oriented for info and buy/sell/trade. 4. I need a good local barbershop.... I keep my hair short (skin fade), and need a place I can rely on to get it right. Thanks for any and all info anyone can provide. |

2. I can vouch for the Lewistown Pistol Club. Good bunch of folks. It'll be about an hour drive for you but well worth the trip! 3. Pennswoods Classifieds is the only "local" site that I'm aware of for buy/sell/trade (https://pennswoodsclassifieds.com/firearms-and-equip). It's not super local, spread out across the state, but there's a fair bit of traffic and some ridiculous ads (I know what I got!). |

Palmyra gun club is about 30 minutes across the river. Most of their matches are air gun but I think they have a steel pistol match and high power rifle matches. They are probably done for winter and will start up in the spring. I know there's a few places on the West shore but I've never been to them. I'm not a fan of the Pa state game ranges, but since you're retired maybe you can go during the week day when the clowns aren't around. |

My preferred club back in AZ was 90min away, so I don't mind the drive. Pennswoods Classifieds reminds me of Armslist, some of those sellers are most assuredly on something... PGC looks promising, steel matches are always good for keeping me humble. I will most likely stay away from state ranges, they weren't ideal back in AZ either. I am probably 20 min from you in Linglestown, closer to 443 than 39 on the northern edge of blue ridge. I go to Blue Ridge Sportsman. Its a big skeet/trap range but since you’re retired that shouldn’t impact you too much. I’m maybe 10 min from the club. They have decent pistol pits, goes to 300yds, has steel starting at 50yds out to 300yds, there are also steel in all the pistol bays. I don’t really shoot clays but its a big deal there. |

If you don't mind driving a bit, Cassel's Automotive in Palmyra/Campbelltown are all great guys. They are also all shooters and at least one is a member here. There are a ton of gun clubs in the area. I am a member at Hummelstown, Palmyra, and Mifflin County Sportsmans. Palmyra is probably one of the best for facilities. Hummelstown has good pits with lots of steel, but the pits are closed on Sundays for sporting clays/wildcat trap (also Friday afternoons for wildcat). I only go to MCSA for rifle shooting. They have a 1000+ yard range. Just to correct a prior post, Blue Ridge does not have skeet or traditional trap. They have a big sporting clays course. They also have wobble and 5 stand. Carlisle has skeet (and a big SC course). Palmyra has regular tap as well as international trap (and a smaller SC course). Competition wise, Palmyra hosts one of the biggest steel shoots in the northeast that draws big name shooters from around the country. Blue Ridge hosts regular steel shoots. Hummelstown has some steel shoots and 2 gun. Heidelberg has some of the better 3 gun shoots in the area. Harrisburg Hunters and Anglers has regular 2 gun shoots, usually alternating months with Heidelberg. I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of others. PAFOA is the only PA site that I am aware of. I can't help you with barbers. I've been bald since my late 20s.

One thing I am curious about, has anyone tried the indoor range at Homeland Outfitters/911 Response in Annville? I was actually in 911 Response on Saturday for the first time. I did not use their range, but they had some very competitive gun prices. I actually picked up a very clean 11-87 with a competition mag tube to play with. Only $400. I did notice that their ammo prices were on the high side and briefly wondered if they make people shoot their ammo at the range. I just totally stopped using public ranges all together due to safety concerns. I find that the people who will pay for a private club membership seem to be safer. FWIW, most of the local clubs have indoor ranges. Some make you attend a safety training before you can use the indoor range. Palmyra does not. Hummelstown and HHA do. Not sure about the others. |

Be sure to check out Country Lane Furniture ( just down the street from 911RR), they have got some great wood furniture and the staff is not at all pushy like some furniture stores tend to be. |
