AFAIK, folding stocks are currently legal to ship to RI. However, they may be counted as an "Evil Feature" when determining if a particular firearm is an "Assault Weapon" as defined by current RI State Law. Text of RI AWB Back in the day, Butler Creek cleverly "de-activated" the folding feature. They inserted a black plastic spacer/collar around the hinge pin which prevented its vertical movement and so locked the hinge pin in place, preventing unlocking the folding mechanism. They used a tiny spot weld to permanently fix/weld the grub screw to the material of the folding arm. One could use appropriate washers in lieu of the plastic spacer. Turns out the user could carefully remove the tiny spot-weld, toss the plastic spacer, install a new 10-cent grub screw, re-assemble, and all was as good as before the neutering. Hopefully this ancient info will not become necessary in the future, but one never knows. Of course, this info is provided for historical purposes and not intended to circumvent any existing laws. |
