| Anyone shoot here? Was a member years ago, nice place and was thinking about applying to rejoin if they are taking new members. Wondering what has changed in the last decade+. |
| I am a member and can give you some info. I don't use the range much anymore, I am getting old and packing all my range stuff and guns and ammo is getting to be a bit of a chore. Here's what I know. Roy, the overly strict range master became the club president about 8 years ago or so, when Tommy Thompson passed away. Another person was supposed to be range master, but Roy was ever present on the ranges. He finally quit being president and now some newer people and retreaded people are back on the board and committees. They are taking new members. Since you left, the .22 rimfire range was completed. A single lane shotgun patterning bay was created next to it. A range masters office was added to the end of the storage building below the Hathcock rifle range. All multi position bays have red and green lights and beeper, so Green means that range is open (hot) and Red means that range is closed, safe your weapons and check/change your targets. Some other maintenance work has been done too. HTH |

I've never been a member. I've been there as a guest and in Appleseed classes. Every time I've been there as a guest, Roy treated me like crap and ran me off. He is the single reason I've never joined and made my own range at home. If Roy is still active, then there is no way I would join. The facility at MCRC has always been decent. I like shooting there. It doesn't have the long range shooting that Clinton House has, but it is a good place to shoot. |

I love hearing stories about Roy being an asshole. He was always nice to me. I must have impressed him at some point. I haven't shot at MCRC in almost 10 years, but my brother recently rejoined and hasn't indicated to me that much has changed. From what he said, the club is around 50% capacity for memberships, back when we shot there every weekend there was a waiting list. There is a new housing development going in behind the berms, unfortunately. Nothing good will come from that. |

I dont espouse myself around, but I've been shooting for a long time...for work, for competition, for fun...been an instructor and armorer through work for nearly 2 decades...and without starting a basic human conversation he approached me and immediately started talking down to me He definitely was one of those..."youre shooting to fast" type people And thats Lexington county for the subdivision..."rubber stamp everything" ...that county has no idea how to manage growth |

FWIW, I just looked through most of the MCRC monthly meeting reports from 01-01-25 through 06-01-26. There is no mention of Roy Mullis and he is not on the attendee lists. 8/10/26 UPDATE: I just emailed one of the company officers about Roy. The reply was that he gave up being club president or officer but is still in charge of range maintenance and is there 5 to 6 days a week working on range fixes and improvements; including running the backhoe and single axle dump truck to move sand and maintain berms. So, yes, there is still a decent chance you may interact with him on the range, and who knows how that would go; make your own decision on that. |
