The snow is FAKE!!!! MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A new debate on snow is heating up online with posts from two Memphis City Council members, one of whom claims she’s getting threats over the post. Pearl Walker and Yolanda Cooper-Sutton shared social media posts this week questioning whether the snow that fell across the city was real, or possibly man-made. The topic is trending on TikTok. screenshot of post from Yolanda-Cooper-Sutton’s account The comments quickly took off online, drawing strong reaction as crews across Memphis were still dealing with icy roads, school closures, and cleanup from one of the city’s more significant winter storms in recent years. Memphis residents grapple with snow-packed streets after winter storm We reached out to Councilwoman Walker about her post. “I had a cousin to make a post, and she held a lighter to a chunk of the snow and it was dissolving, but water was not dripping, and I commented that it looked different,” Walker said. “But what Memphians need to know and understand is I have a right to my opinion and my opinion and right to speak is bigger than the constitution.” WREG also contacted Cooper-Sutton. She says what she meant as a light-hearted post shared with family and friends has now been blown out of proportion. “I am doing super amazing, but my family here and I have gotten some threats on my life,” Cooper-Sutton said. “My Facebook page, people are talking about, they hope that I die, and that I get over some snow, and no one has gone to my page, and actually see the work that I’m doing, taking food to my neighbors, my senior citizen neighbors, making phone calls, praying, you know, for our city and, I’m not sure what this is about or where this attack has come from because it has been really ugly and mean.” Snow, ice removal service sees high demand after winter storm Councilwoman Cooper-Sutton says the challenges many of her neighbors and constituents are facing during the snow and ice recovery are far more important and urgent than any social media post about whether snow is real.  |

In the first few days of this ice storm mess, I saw some comments from someone who apparently lives in southeast TN claiming that the ice storm crisis is fake and that the government is turning off the power for no reason. Loons are everywhere. |
