I wanted to get my wife signed up for a pistol class and heard good things about Canovi. I heard a commercial for them on the radio the other day, so I think I would give them a call. Google says "permanently closed". Their website is still up, but I've emailed and called and just get a "the message box is full" recording. Are they still around? If so...how can I contact them? Also, is there anywhere else you guys could recommend for a firearms class? Thanks |

There is a guy named Greg Pugh, pronounced pew, just outside St. Louis that does CCW and several pistol courses... STLCCW.com I like the way he presents and evolves his mindset in regards to what works best and most efficiently. I took his ccw course years ago to get my ccw and then recommended him to several friends and coworkers.. All had positive reports... I would take one of his courses again. Also, another good one. I have a x coworker I worked with at Charter for 15+ years. He lives over in Granite City and now owns a gun store and training outfit over there called Soteria Tanning Solutions and armory.. I think its STS-Armory.com Both him and his wife continuesly attend training and seminars. They offer ccw and pistol courses, maybe more by now. His wife specializes in women's training classes as some women only want to train by women and with women. Very good folks. Also a member here. His name is Jesse and I think @jazzyemt is his username.. If my wife would take a course, I'd have no problems sending her to either of the two places I mentioned... |

He can't say enough good about them. Anyway a week or so ago he was in my office and we were bs'ing about Ham radio, guns etc... He told me that AS was looking at cutting back on training any more civilians, unless they know them or they are some how thoroughly vetted as their bread and butter is Mil, Govt and LE training contracts... Something happened that gave them the idea that IF someone ever took one or more of their courses, then shot up a school or some shit and it was found out that AS trained them, that it would blow back on them and they might loose a lot of their contracts. This is second hand info, but I've known the dude for years, and I can't see any reason he'd make it up. |

Ultimate Defense out in St. Peters does some classes Https://www.udrange.com Father & I took our CCW class there and thought it was ok. Never took any other classes they offer but have been thinking about trying one out. |

| The Chapman Academy in Hallsville (near Columbia) used to be pretty good but it's been years since I attended any of their classes. After Ray Chapman died,I believe it was taken over by Green Valley Rifle and Pistol Club. I think they still host the Bianchi Cup and the Missouri State IDPA Championship.
