| I'm applying for a promotion at my job, and should I be awarded it, I'll have to relocate to the Phillidelphia area. My jobsite will be at PHL, so where should I be looking for possible places to live? I know finding what I have in GA is nearly impossible to find in the Philly area, but I don't mind commuting up to an hour from the airport. |

Delco 4 lyfe. Until I moved to Georgia  I'm moving back to PA but sadly not Delco. I lived in Ridley 35 years and have no complaints. If I had to work in Philly or at PHL that's where I would go. Easy commute. Swarthmore or Springfield are also close, you can get more home, and you'll pay way more taxes. Most of Central and West Delco are fine and would have an ok commute. Northern side you'd have to get down the blue route, that will suck. East and South are dumps stay out. Chester county is lovely but the commute on route 1 would be a drag. If you think you could cut through Delaware or Maryland over to 95, that's also unpleasant. PM me if you want more Delco opinions. I'm hung up on commute times because I hate it now Also, DCFS gun range in Brookhaven, very close  Atglen gun range has a lot of matches worth going to as well and it's not far either. |

I would not recommend Delco. Most of Delco is a shithole and has been trending Democrat over the years. Currently all the county leadership are democrats. There are of course nice places that are technically delaware county like Radnor, but that is further north and is part of the very wealthy main line area. Delco is very tribal. Almost everyone whom I know who is a long time resident of Delco thinks Delco has the best of everything. Best pizza? Delco. Best Cheesesteak? Delco. Best ###? Delco. It's laughable. The recent news where the lady shits on another person's car? Delco. I'd consider living in upper bucks county where I am. Depending on your work hours, traffic on the highways can be a pain, but that's everywhere. PHL to Quakertown exit is about 45 minutes with moderate traffic. If not upper bucks, maybe look at western chester county. Not sure what your budget is, but living near King of Prussia would also be good, maybe west of KOP. Good shopping and nice(r) area. |

I'll probably generally leave the house between 0300-0400 and then depending on what's going on at work, it'll be between an 8-10 hour day. Budget wise, I'm looking at $500k or so for a place. If I get this job, and our house in GA sells for top dollar, we might be able to add to that budget a smidge. My biggest requirement would be good schools, and a garage. The Mrs??? Who knows. |

500K is going to limit your options in Delco to the "middle" towns like Springfield, Aston, Broomall, Lima, Garnet Valley, etc. There is a pretty well defined hierarchy/caste system in place in Delco. Pretty much anywhere right around the airport is no go. The middle towns are all around 7-10 miles out. Much north of that and you get into the main line towns like Radnor, King of Prussia, etc which will be out of your price range. Swarthmore will be out too. 500K-600K would get you something around 3/2 or maybe a 4/3 on the high end if you are lucky. Small plot of land, around .25 - .5 acre. My kid is in Springfield HS and it is good. New school only a few years old and well regarded. Garnet Valley is good too. And Delco does have the best pizza! And some really good cheesesteak places  Sadly though there are a lot of shity towns in SE PA that shitbags have entirely drained so now they are pushing out into the nicer areas. I fear it is a long slow slide but that seems to be happening pretty much everywhere nowadays  |

+1 for Delco. We moved here a couple of years ago and have been pretty happy with our choice. Garnet Valley is a great school district, one of the reasons we chose this location vs others just outside Philly county/city. Zephyr brings up good points in their post. I would stick to the western part of the county if you can. It’s easy to hit 95 and shoot straight up to the airport. I'm going to try and keep this post short but feel free to PM me if I can help. There are a *ton* of nice areas you could choose to live and meet most of your criteria. You can live pretty far from the airport and get there within an hour at that time of day. You can also consider living in Jersey and Delaware if you don't care about the horrible gun laws. There are several good school districts towards the west as you get closer to the 'main line' but the housing prices will go up considerably in those areas. Lower Merion, Treddyfrin, Haverford, Radnor are all top-10 school districts in PA, and I'm probably leaving a few out). You basically have to decide what is most important to you and you'll be able to find several areas that meet your needs. I think you'll find you're moving to a great place! I am a life-long resident and currently live basically where Chesco/Delco/Montco meet. I'm just inside Chester County but can be in the other two in less than 10 minutes. I commute to Philly for work. |

When I say Delco has good pizza, I'm talking about the places nearer Philly. Even 20 minutes out in GV the pizza quality goes down considerably. Basic rule of thumb is look for the small family (ideally Italian) owned pizza places. Often the sketchier looking the better the pizza. A good pizza place is just too busy to replace those yellow ceiling tiles or buy new tables to replace the ones they bought in the 80s. Avoid pizza shops run by Greeks of which there are a lot. No offense to them, they make a lot of other good food but IMO they suck at pizza. They do run a lot of diners in the area that are good though. |

Small world. When we moved back to PA a few years ago, I knew I didn't want to be in Delco anymore, but I still needed to be a reasonable drive to PHL. We bought in Southern Chester County. It is a 50 minute drive to PHL and absolutely no regrets. I can hunt and fish any day of the week locally, good schools, no crime, cheap taxes, multiple gun clubs. |

TSS in Avondale is exponentially nicer and you can take all of those permit classes there without the attitude. I wouldn't recommend Targetmaster to anyone unless they lived within 5 minutes of it. |

Targetmaster is bad. Best sandwiches in the western suburbs are at A Cut Above in Newtown Square. Absolutely the best Italian sandwiches and rival the famous city ones. I drive an hour from bucks county to buy sandwiches from there. They use bread from Sarcone's. The Roast Pork w/Sharp Provolone and Broccoli Rabe w/Long hots is stupid good. Better than DeNic's or Tony Luke's. |

| Well I’m still waiting to hear about an interview, but my supervisors have contacted the hiring manager to recommend me for the position. I’m keeping myself hopeful. The Mrs accepted a new job yesterday with the local school system here in GA, so if I get this job, I’ll be living out of a crash pad till next May. |

I'm a little late chiming in, but if you're going to be commuting to the airport, here's a few recommendations. Delaware, north of Wilmington on the PA state line. But not Claymont. Preferably north of Rt 92 (Naaman's Road). Concord Township PA and any of its unincorporated neighborhoods (Glen Mills, Concordville, Garnet Valley). Bethel Township, Chadds Ford, Thornbury Township, Edgmont Township, Middletown Township. Also if you want a walk around small town feel, shops, restaurants etc., there are some nice spots in Media borough. |
