Hoping Guy Relford lurks around these parts... Have an interesting legal question and sadly ISP seems to be useless in this case as all I get is the run around. I am a former Indiana resident, obtained my lifetime permit back when you had to pay. Lived in Indiana for several years after obtaining my permit, but I have now since moved out of state. I followed all applicable laws where required to update my address each time I've moved and currently have a permit with my out of state address printed on it but it is the Pink Indiana Resident Lifetime permit card. What I can't seem to get a straight answer on is, is it still valid? According to the ARIES portal, it's active. ISP won't tell me anything when I call them and give them my permit information and ask for it's status. The only thing they tell me is if I've updated my address then that's all I've needed to do. This seems to be a bit of a loophole that Indiana forgot to account for or it was left there intentionally, I'm not sure. But it sure would be nice to know if I'm valid or not. Anyone (preferably an attorney with experience in this) have information? (I'm licensed in two other states so no worries about losing privileges, just want to get confirmation that mine is still valid.) TIA AB |

I know this isn’t your specific question but it could play into the answer. In 2022, Indiana repealed its longstanding law that required a person carrying a concealed firearm in public to obtain a license and background check.1 As of July 1, 2022, anyone 18 years-of-age or older who is not prohibited from firearm possession by state or federal law may generally carry a concealed handgun in public.2 |

Are you talking to the firearms division? Years ago I called and asked this question and was told that the permit will always remain valid even when no longer a resident. If that is true then your per.it is still good, just update the address and carryon. |
