Going to be in town March 14-18, Will have 1 or 2 days to my self. Any thing I need to see or do? White Sands is a destination. Can I see anything at Holloman? Any cant miss restaurants? Wish I could get on to Trinity. |

Las Cruces to Alamogordo is about 70 miles. The museum of space history is really cool. You can’t see a ton of Holloman, as it’s along the highway between LC & Alamogordo. Closer to Alamogordo of course. Sledding the dunes at white sands is really fun, a very unique place for sure. Sometimes when sledding/walking the dunes you’ll catch some fighters taking off or landing. As far as eats, go to Spanish Kitchen in Las Cruces, good stuff. Good luck & stay safe. |

I think someone who lives there should chime in on that one. I’ve never stayed more than a night or two. I’ve never felt unsafe there, unlike Albuquerque. Edit: to say, I live 2 hours north of there. |

Icebox Brewing has taprooms all over Las Cruces and a brewery / taproom on West Picacho Avenue, Icebox BrewingSpotted Dog Brewery is fun little spot, Spotted Dog BreweryYelp does a pretty good job listing the highest rated breweries, Yelp Breweries in Las CrucesThe only one I'd avoid is the Little Toad Creek Brewery. It depends. I got a frantic call several years ago because 5 LCPD idiots were pointing rifles at my daughter. She asked me what to do and I said get in the tub. Come to find out the idiot above her apartment pointed a pistol at a motorist in a road rage thang. I personal hate Las Cruces, I call it the gravel pit. There is nothing I need from there. Las Cruces IS THE NM drug corridor. If you like the mountains go up to the ranger station by Cloudcroft and get a trail map or if you have any ONX product you can go and see some forest. Lol. White Oaks if you like old semi abandoned mining communities. There are other mines, pieces of mining equipment near Rio Bonito. Ruidoso has lots of trendy tourist shops there. You might check with Ruidoso Chamber of Commerce to see if anything is ongoing. There is the Apache casino at the End of the Mountain Gods. I don't think there are any horse racing until May. If your a history buff, there is a Oliver Lee State Park. If you want to get some Billy the Kid info, go to Lincoln. As usual for NM, lots of road miles between sites. I say bring a rifle, call or caller and go coyote hunting. PS. I saw multiple drug deals go down in LC when I was working on my daughters car. This was in the AM day light. plus FNMSU also. Lol |

Good information, looks like I have a few more places to visit! ryder12, where do I begin? LOL!! I have a rifle or two, and plenty of ammo. Don't have a call, or any idea where to hunt coyotes without running into the Juarez boys at night selling drugs! I would stay out of the tub too, unless it was cast iron. Thanks for the tip on Ruidoso. Didn't realize gambling was on the radar. You folks have me thinking that I should stay a night our two in Alamogordo? I could swing it easy enough if I could find a decent hotel. Thank you guys!! |

Andele’s in Mesilla (just outside LC) is my favorite for Mexican food. The city on a whole is quite safe unless you happen to belong in the drug/gang trade. For regular folks there’s not much to worry about. But to be on the safe side, stay away from W Amador and W Picacho. We did just have an officer killed responding to a trespassing in that area. High desert brewing is a good quiet spot for a drink. Ice box is a good one too already mentioned. Pancho Villa state park just south of deming has a pretty cool little museum with a Jenny hanging from the rafters and a car that was shot up during pancho villas raid. Pretty sure the space port south of T or C still lets visitors check it out. The Rio Grande will be dry so don’t expect to see the river. If you want to shoot an M203 (sorry, no HE sadly) or go for a flight around the area in a Piper Cherokee let me know. |

I appreciate everyone's responses. I moved a couple days up to Alamogordo. Going to hit a casino on the way home. Space Museum is also a destination. Will hit White Sands too. Clayvt, I have a Can Cannon, I am sure similar to the 203 with no HE? The plane ride I would be interested in though. Coyotes and the Juarez boys have to wait I guess. |
| Not sure where you're coming in from, but if you want to try a really great green chile hamburger, go to Sparky's in Hatch, the green chile capital of New Mexico and maybe the world. But if you have someone with you who doesn't like an old time greasy burger, you might want something else. |
