Hey, sounds like a good time! I live in DC and stayed in Foggy Bottom once for an internship. Here are a few ideas:
-It will probably be cold and windy. Make sure to bring gloves and the correct clothing. Bring walking shoes!
Bring some cloth Covid face masks and hand sanitizer. You will need masks to enter any building but *might* be able to get by without wearing them outside.
If you have an iPhone, use your map tool to search restaurant locations, and call and confirm to make sure dining rooms are open. Might need to make reservations for dinner.
Foggy Bottom is walking distance to Georgetown. Lots of dessert places (think cupcakes, brownies, cookies) worth trying out. Plenty of fancier dinner places (Italian, seafood, various ethnic places). Martin’s Tavern would be a classic DC spot to visit for steak or shepherds pie (JFK took Jackie there).
Try one of the Founding Farmers restaurants for a slightly upscale dinner and drinks. They have a few locations in the city.
Good Stuff Eatery has a burger place in Georgetown and one in Capitol Hill, with some sister restaurants, that would be great for lunch or a casual dinner.
Le Diplomat, Medium Rare, the Monacle and a few other places are great white table cloth places to get a DC power couple date vibe.
The Smithsonians and National Mall will take two days or so to see, depending on your speed. Any Smithsonian/Corcoran art gallery is good. But the National Portrait museum is a great mix between art and history. Highly recommend.
Walk around Capitol Hill just to see the houses and the Capitol from a distance lol. Hawk n Dove is a great bar there, and Barracks Row has some good spots too.
Arlington National Cemetery is a must-see, but need to check if it’s open. The best Virginia restaurants are down in Old Town Alexandria.
Ok, that should cover a lot.... let me know if you have any other questions.
