| The dam I want to build in one of the valleys on my property will have to be about 30 feet high. Anyone deal with larger stock pond dam projects? |

The pond needs to be 24 feet deep at center. Given the narrow V shape of the valley, a little bit of excavation ought to allow that staying under 15' for dam height, right? Good question though remember you will need to excavate a few feet of material at the base of the damn before laying in the new damn. Otherwise water will run under it though the natural soil and eventually erode it enough to take out the damn (if it manages to hold any water at all). |

Excavating down 15 feet ought to let the dam be much shorter than 30 feet, right? |

I thought that they were more for strength. I hadn't considered leakage under. |
