Hwy 64 opened all the way through Bat Cave, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure on March 28th. Unfortunately they had a power outage in town part of the day. Going to head back down and eat lunch and try to spend a few bucks next week. The roadbed is now literally where the riverbed used to be. Still lots of damage to personal property, the land is changed forever, used to skip school and spend the days in the Rocky Broad River. Lots of places you drive and can see where 64 used to be well above the current level of the road.Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

| No problem, thanks for the help. Hard to believe but there are still over 200 families a week coming to food distribution at church that started immediately after Helene. |

I went threw about 10:00. I only saw 3 businesses and the post office open. I'm sure there are more but not many. Its mind blowing how wide it is now. |

Made it back down Saturday and even though we were getting some badly needed showers there was a good amount of people in Chimney Rock. Walked a bit , ate at Chimney Rock Smokehouse and had great food and service. Was great to see folks in town again, I hope it is a good summer for the area, lake is nearly full. | I drove through there a couple months ago and it was heartbreaking to see how bad it still is. I had wanted to go sooner but didn't want to be in the way and I'm glad I waited. It will never be the same but hopefully it will be able to be rebuilt to the point it can be enjoyed again. |
If anyone is in lake lure area check out the "Lured" restaurant. Its in the old gas station across the street from the old ABC store. Really good food. Ive not been down to lake lure in a while but had a job going down there before the storm hit and had to finish up after the storm. It was surreal driving over there after the storm. I live on the other side of the continental divide in Fairview and had to drive through Gerton to get to my job. Im not sure who hired them but they had some type of security guys blocking the road with straight up slung ar 15 and blockade checking every car that came through. Im not sure of how it was going down but this is a state road and somehow they where setting up a checkpoint privately. Luckily I drive a F350 service body truck for work and was headed to my job so i just threw on the flashers and they would just waive me on through bypassing the checkpoint line.
