Downtown Brookings blaze destroys building SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A downtown Brookings business in the 300 block of Main Street caught fire Monday morning, with the call coming in at around 5:10 a.m., according to Brookings Police. According to the Brookings Police Chief, no lives were lost in the fire, and there were no serious injuries. KELOLAND’s Karlee Phillips arrived on-scene before 11:00 a.m. in Brookings to find the store collapsed into itself as responding agencies stood watch, the building still smoking. KELOLAND’s Summer Raderschadt spoke with the BPD, who confirmed that the fire appeared to have started at Brost’s Fashions. The Red Cross of South Dakota has also posted about the fire, calling it a “multi-family fire.” Police say the multiple agencies are responding, and that as of 7:45 a.m., the fire is still burning. | It's bad. From what I've seen it looks like the building in between is a shell and will probably come down. Looks like a lot of water and smoke damage. I would bet their inventory is toast. Wouldn't be surprised if the building is as well. Might be a few businesses lost. |
| Well, this is as good of news you can hope for given the circumstances. Have a few great memories of skipping out of work and running up there and then over to Kjergaard's. Hope they can keep their location downtown. |
