So my 27 y.o. son is moving to Reno for work. 3 year contract, starts Jan 1, 2026. Looking for any info on good apartment complexes to look at or, just as important, places to avoid. Cost is a factor - he’ll be making around 60k. Never been there in my life so please reply like you’re talking to a toddler. Thanks! Looking forward to visiting him there! |

| Reno isn't too bad, there are some bad neighborhoods, but he would immediately know when he went to look. Being a university town, the rental market is a little extra difficult. Personally, I'd probably be trying to minimize my commute while being in an ok neighborhood. Wish him luck. Its a great place to live if you're into the outdoors. | My advice is to find something somewhat close to his work. We aren't a metropolis but our traffic level is quite a bit over whatever the road designers accounted for so a normal work commute can be a bit annoying if you are fighting it. |

Look up the areas on one of the local crime maps. Avoid 4th Street near downtown unless that area has really changed. I also think a lot of the houses just south of the University are kind of sketchy, but I haven't been in that area of Reno for a few years. |
