I moved here to Michigan right before COVID hit and shut the border. I have only visited Canada once, and that was just a day trip to a border town. I would like to check it out again. I am thinking of making a jaunt into southern Ontario this summer, just for tourism. At this stage I really don't have any plan beyond "have a look around." Due to our budget, and the fact that this is a second vacation, I'd like to stay within maybe a couple hundred km of the border (I'd enter at Sarnia). Do y'all have any suggestions on neat things to see in the area? I would like to experience something distinctly Canadian. I am not the sort of tourist that goes to another country to eat McDonalds burgers and see chain hotels. |

I’ll start out by saying the Sarnia Duty free is awesome, but the wait to cross back into the US is always long. Crossing there is a straight shot to Toronto. If you want to go there, park at the airport and ride the train into Downtown, you’ll thank me. Niagara Falls, is really amazing. The Falls are absolutely stunning, however the town is reminiscent of a mini Pigeon Forge, TN. Pick up some Ice Wine while you’re there and if you find some Ice Cider, even better! All along the lakes are a good time and good fishing. The best store I can recommend going to in Canada is Canadian Tire. |
If you make it to Toronto there is the CN Tower to visit.. If you are really brave or crazy you can do the tower edge walk..

To say that you are on thin ice would be a vastly optimistic view of your current situation. The ice has melted. You are being supported by the surface tension of water.

Windsor is a busy town, so is London. but as previously mentioned, if you are able to go further east, Niagara is quite nice (especially if you are into wines) and TO is huge....specifically the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). For unique, St Jacobs Market is an attraction- its in Kitchener which is between London and Toronto. How long are you in country for? Mark |

Toronto and Niagara Falls is definitely on the list of places I'd like to visit, but those are going to be future trips when i have a little more time. The wife and I go every year, but that's probably farther than you want to travel this time. Despite my user name I was born & raised in Ontario. Don't know much about London though. |
