I would like to take a class for fun- something like intermediate/advanced shooting or maybe a little more dynamic. I'm not finding much on the interwebz, other than basic/intro or CPL classes. I practice on my own and shoot fairly well, but I know there are things I can learn from someone else. |

https://trainmdfi.com/ MDFI is one of the few I know of, but their classes are all over. Ann Arbor would be the closest. Justin from Fenix Ammunition has spoken highly of their classes, specifically the "you suck it's not the gun" pistol class. I'm likely going to sign up once my 16 month old starts allowing our schedule to be more flexible. I was in the same boat, but decided to just start showing up to matches, or IDPA/USPA practice at the local ranges. OCSC - IDPA practice is more fun/challenging than I initially thought it would be, and a good group of guys. TCCC - Monday night pistol practice runs through October, also a great option. Not exactly "south east" but it's one of the best clubs around in my opinion. Well worth the hour drive for me. $150 for 2 year membership, open 7 days a week, run whatever drills you want just don't be an idiot and clean up after yourself. Few bays are covered for poor weather days (ex: covered/heated steel pistol range makes a great rainy day activity). DM me if you end up planning to go to, I'll see if I can make it. |

Big MDFI guy here. I have taken a ton of their courses over the last 15 or so years. PM if you have questions. Last class I took was pre-covid and I haven't been able to get back, but the content is fantastic and the training cadre is rock solid. |

Thanks for the responses. I have seen MDFIs site and enough positive reviews that I'd considered them.  So far, though, every time I think of it, they haven't got a class anywhere near me. I'll keep checking, though. |

Yeah, the 'You suck, it's not the gun' is probably the one I would take. Not because I suck, though...  I'm a member of a similar club, and I can shoot how I like there. It's also really close to the house, which is good. There's not a handgun group at mine, but there is a 3-gun group I shot with for a while. That did give me some good practice and ideas. I have never actually shot in a competition. I understand the logic, but I'm just not a huge fan of the format and the procedures. It's one reason I stopped shooting with the 3-gun guys at my club. |
