Back in July, I got a S&W Model 49 from Centerfire, as they were running a sale on the bunch of used S&W and Colt revolvers they have been sitting on. The 49 I got was in quite good shape, with a few small spots of rust (as advertised). It works and shoots fine, but I would like to get the action cleaned. I think these came from police depts in PR, and given the climate there I’m concerned about what’s going on inside. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith in IL who is good with servicing S&W revolvers? |

Since it sounds like you do not currently have any functional issues, it is easy to clean/service the internals on S&W revolvers, especially if you do not intend remove any parts beyond the stocks and sideplate. Might be an option for you if you are at all handy. |

Get yourself an ultra sonic cleaner and you won't even have to remove the side plate. Strip off the stocks, throw it in and run it for a day and it'll come out cleaner than a baby's bottom. Blow it dry with compressed air and oil it up with some quality lubricant and you're good to go! Gary |

Watch a video, decide if you think you can handle it, then buy some good, correctly sized screwdrivers. |
