Tax assessments are a real problem in NC. There doesn’t seem to be protection for a primary home place, especially if they’re young, first time buyers or paid off longtime homeowners. Maybe if the amount of increase per year could be set. Raise the values then it can only go up a certain percentage every two years for example. Doubling someone’s property taxes in a year or two hits hard for home owners trying to make ends meet. If you’re just looking to buy a starter home, live in it for a few years and then upgrade, I can see how that would slow your value increase. |
