Skool me. One of the county’s premier horse venues is owned by the city of Nampa. They are proposing to GIVE it-transfer it-to THE COLLEGE OF WESTERN IDAHO. Smells like bullshit to me. What’s the angle? Besides horses there are some good sized gun shows there…. Is CWI going to allow gun shows on its new campus? Link to Nampa City webpage and further explanation. |

I did some digging when this was announced and historically it's operated in the negative of around a million a year and has been a drain on the city. In the last say 3-4 years it's actually started to make money, albeit not a ton. 2021 showed a 488K profit, 2022 brought in 1.2 million, 2023 was 800K, 2024 it's been reported there was only a "slight profit or break even" From what I understand it's also a burden for the city to manage and if they got rid of it they would be able to allocated more resources to roads and law enforcement. Per the FAQ it would free up 5 million dollars annually. The reason they aren't selling it is because it would have to go to auction and a private company could buy it and then the community would lose control. There's also 20-25 million in needed maintenance and improvements that would require tax hikes to the community. I don't know why Idaho Dispatch is all riled up about, EVERY event I've been to, aside from the gun show, at the Ford Center has metal detectors. It's not like I'm carrying a gun into the Tool concert or anything, the Stampede is the biggest event they hold and they don't allow guns either. |

I attended my first Stampede this year… forgot about “weapons” and metal detectors-I’ve lived in the sticks for a while. They didn’t care about my zero tolerance folder. I still have a WA license so I’m not carrying my handguns much. |

I worked security there for a few years, as something to keep me occupied after work. You would not believe the amount of knifes we confiscated. Literal barrels full. If I ran across any one carrying a knife I would encourage them to hide it? Or take it back to the car. You would not believe the amount of people that would say F it! And surrender. At the end of the night! The FIC employees would sort through the barrel, and grab what ever they wanted. We even confiscated umbrellas from little old ladies heading into that one gal that does a Christmas concert. The rain was coming in sideways, but event rules prevented umbrellas. Not one of my proudest moments.  BTW They paid staff about $12.00 an hour. Even when Mac Donalds was at $15.00 Saw some great shows for free! But came away from it hating drunk people. With the low pay? Not understanding how they can be in the red. Unless it's gross mismanagement. |
