Looks likes anyone who has a child in public school will get this email. I remember the bill getting passed but forgot about it until today when this popped into my email from my son’s school district. Happy to see parents all made aware of it. Hopefully these transplants understand this is more important than mandatory genders inclusion bullshit other states have. God I love this state. “Dear Parents and Guardians, We wanted to inform you about important and mandatory safety instruction that will be provided to all students, as required by a new Tennessee state law. Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, all Tennessee Local Education Agencies are required to provide annual, age-appropriate instruction on firearm safety to students in grades K-12 (Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-1016). To fulfill this requirement, our district will be utilizing the state-approved video resources developed by the Tennessee Department of Education, the Department of Safety & Homeland Security, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Requirements of the TN State Law on Firearm Safety The new state law mandates that this instruction must meet specific criteria: Core Safety Topics: The instruction must teach students: ? Safe storage of firearms. ? School safety related to firearms. ? How to avoid injury if a firearm is found. ? To never touch a found firearm. ? To immediately notify an adult of the location of a found firearm. For younger students (K-5), the instruction often focuses on the "Stop, Don't Touch, Leave the Area, Tell an Adult” four step rule. School-wide Participation: The law requires all students be provided this instruction. Viewpoint Neutrality: All instructional materials must be viewpoint-neutral on political topics such as gun rights, gun violence, and the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. No Live Firearms: The instruction may not include the use or presence of live ammunition, live fire, or live firearms.
