| We are paying 23 cents a KWH for Ameren. So, I signed up for a cheaper plan. Now my sister says these plans may end up costing more. Anybody run into this problem? |

https://plugin.illinois.gov/ Everything you need to know is here but .23/kwh is much higher than the going rate around here from Ameren which is .0809/kwh base price plus a bunch of surcharges that bring it to around .134/ kwh total. In fact I flipped through and looked an nobody is near .23 right now so you were definitely getting screwed somehow. You can get in trouble if you pick a variable rate company and the base rates go up, but I don't see how picking, say a fixed 24 month contract at .10/kwh will get you in trouble since that means you are locked into that rate for 2 years no matter what happens to base rates. ETA: Side note if you weren't aware, yet another way Chicago screws us downstaters is by taking all the "cheap" subsidized electricity from the wind towers they have polluted our landscape with and using it to keep their own power rates much lower than ours. Com-ed (Chicago) currently is sitting at a base price of .0647/kwh whereas all of ameren (everywhere south of I80) is at .0809/kwh |

Yes we opened a flower shop a little over 10 years ago. They had fine fine fine print about this and that. It started lower than the utility company because they bought electricity in bulk. Then they fudged the transmission numers and other stuff 1/2 to a penny at a time. Pretty soon they had it almost 30% over what we had at home. Look around I'm pretty sure you can get out of it if the misrepresented what your fees where and whn they could raise them. |
