Do you know anyone who regrets leaving Illinois. (Page 1 of 2)

| We have family here and in Virginia. Indiana is two and half hours away. Illinois is obviously trying to get rid of us normal people. And not just with worthless gun laws. Taxes are high, roads are crap, schools declining, churches are going fulling in favor of sin, and everywhere you turn is corruption. |

7 years ago when I was in my early 30s. I miss my family, friends, and the farm I grew up on. Im a small lot city dweller now after growing up on tractors. I miss all that very much. But every time I cross the Mississippi River headed east it feels like leaving America and landing in East Germany. I literally cant believe I used to live there. When you're born and raised under oppression you dont really even fully grasp what its like in a land of freedom. My only regret about leaving Illinois? I should have done it 10 years before I did. |

I know this isn't along OP's question, but, I'm goin to vent... My GF and I were to move once I retired, but as fate would have it, her daughter finally straightened up and needed her mom's help. So now we're going to wait until her daughter finishes college and gets a place of her own (she's living w/mom to help with expenses and it's a 4 year nursing degree to which she excelling at). I can't bitch to much, I never thought the kid would get it together like she has, so it's worth it to the kid and the relation ship to wait it out. GF can then sell her house and I can sell mine and we shall move to Missouri...Salem or Lebanon looks so nice. God's Country. |

Born and raised in the 312. I left in 1996. All of my family (mom & siblings) still live there. I go back to visit a few times a year and that's it. Besides family, I really miss the food. As others have stated, it's like returning to a communist country when I visit. Back in the 1980's, you couldn't pay me any amount to leave IL. Maybe, one day, shit might change. I am not holding my breath. |

I escaped earlier this year to Tennessee. My wife and I couldn't be happier, it's so great to be out of that cesspool. Now when I see Illinois plates I feel like saying get the fuck out don't come down here we're full. I hope that the people coming down here from IL, NY, NJ, CA and so on realize that they are refugees not missionaries. Edit for clarity. |

The real estate tax rate is less there but the houses there are generally more expensive(especially considering no basements) so that comes out about the same. The warm winters are nice though. The county I'm in here is conservative and laid back, I belong to a nice range about 20 miles from here. PICA sucks and hopefully will be struck down but I already have all the ar's I want and don't care about suppressors so those restrictions don't really affect how I live. I'm quite a ways from Chicago though, I'm sure I would view things differently if I was up there. |

Don't regret leaving Illinois at all, been living away from home for a long time. Just visited family around Chicago this past weekend, the only thing I personally miss is pizza, specifically Aurellios in Homewood. |

I do. I moved from IL to CA for work. We are planning on moving back hopefully soon. I do know it is a sh**t show right now and has been for a while. We lived in downtown and it was great to walk around and go out to dinner. We loved the food there. We never had any issues, but we also knew where to go and where to stay away from. Any place now adays is a sh**t show. Originally from Miami, FL. That is a place I will never go back to!! |

I've been ROFLMFAO for 10 minutes just reading the title of this post. Seriously?  I left that shit hole (Chgo sw burbs) in 1991, at age 41, moved 375 miles north. No city, no town, I live in the woods close to a national forest. I'm 85 miles from the nearest interstate highway. I haven't been back since 1997 when my mom died, and if my mom's funeral wasn't held there, I wouldn't have made that 3 day trip either. |

Born and lived in the 618 for 56 years and moved to TN 6 years ago. I'm still in IL quite often for work and to visit family. The world I grew up in no longer exists in my hometown. Crazy laws and crime have even touched my small part of the 618. I would not move back to IL for any reason. Tennessee is like stepping back in time 40 years and we regard it as home and free America. |

Also born and raised in the 618. Spent a little over a year in BFE NV after graduating from SIU. Moved back east to AL. Loved the location, job, not so much. The job as explained to me in the interview was not the job expected when I arrived. They wanted someone to snitch on the Union and this yankee isn't that stupid. So I ended up back in IL. Bounced around and landed 50 miles from where it all started. Working on my escape plan. Haven't decided where I want to settle. Currently considering AR, IN, KY and WV. If AB, MB, SK, and inland BC bail from Canada I'd seriously look at MB or AB. |

Today is my one year anniversary of my move to the Free State of Missouri. No regrets other than I should have never moved back to Illinois in 1988 when I separated from the military. |
