Conservation Congress Spring Hearings today statewide. Can also vote on measures online today through 4/15/26. I perused the earlier and mostly concern the WI DNR's request for across the board license fee increases. Some fees haven't increased in almost twenty years, so I think this request has merit. Another question seeks permission to try an experimental method to combat the spread of CWD in Sauk County that would be implemented for five years. After which, the results would be analyzed and if successful in reducing the spread of CWD, this method would be implemented statewide. Gary |

By using the term "landscape", I'm assuming the WI DNR is meaning "fallow' or non tilled/non fertilized acreage. The question doesn't say that the voluntary participants would be reimbursed for the cost of the mineral supplements or the loss of income of crop producing acreage. Gary |
| If this is a State program, why doesn't the State just provide the minerals to the landowners that choose to participate? Pretty shitty that they'd expect the landowners to foot the bill and as a reward, the DNR will increase license costs. I'd like to think if they go ahead with this, it would be on the DNRs dime. |

Because this experiment is financed with private dollars, there is very little incentive for land owners to participate, especially seeing that landowners would have to fit the bill for not only the initial application of this mineral supplement, but all the following applications over the next five years. | Why the heck couldn't the "private dollars" fund the minerals? This sounds like another DNR debacle. How much is the DNR spending on current CWD programs? I imagine these and a bushel of other questions will be asked at the meetings. How many get answered is another story. I still don't get what's in it for the landowners, esp. if they're the ones the DNR expects to pay. |
