Will be on the Big Island for a week starting the 26th. Wife starts a travel nursing gig near Hilo. What are the knife carry laws there? Would like to take her to a really nice restaurant one night. Something a little nice and not so touristy. We will taking in Volcano National Park. She really wants to see Kilauea while it's erupting. Anything else on the big island that is a must see? I will be there a week. Her contract runs almost 4 months. I will be coming a few times over the next 4 months to visit her and would like to plan quite a few things to see with her. Thank you |

I hope you both enjoy your stays. Volcano National Park is great. There's also a botanic garden in the area that's enjoyable. As for food, depends on what you like. Living on the other side from Hilo, my knowledge is limited. Happy to answer anything the best I can. PM if you prefer. |

Wife already got our passes for the park. That's squared away. Will have to do a search for some restaurants. Was hoping for a locals perspective. |

Had a great time. Going up to Kiluea was awesome. Spent the week with the wife. She worked for part of the day and I went out to see a few sights. The black sand and green sand beaches were pretty cool. Saw a few green sea turtles. Going back the 1st of next month for our anniversary. She is taking a few days off and we are going to Honolulu. I spent my last day there to get ready for my flight home. The Arizona and Missouri museums were pretty awesome. Going into the USS Bowfin submarine was really cool. Honolulu is pretty crowded and expensive. But was worth it. |

@50cal Great to hear all that. Agreed on Honolulu. Expensive but worth it from time to time. People think of Oahu when picturing HI. Hard to grasp Big Island until you step off the plane. It also makes a huge difference if you fly into Kona vs. Hilo. Happy anniversary and if you want ideas for touring the sunny side of the island just let me know. |

Pesto in Kawaihae closed like 8 years ago. I miss them. |

@50cal If you go to Kona and want a great sandwich a new shop called Da Whip is what you seek. I can assure you that #6 is killer. |
