Chandler Discontinues Use of Flock’s Camera's City is saying "For the first time in three years, our routine audit process identified an anomaly in the use of the Flock system that could not be explained through standard police action". MSN is saying this "A Chandler police employee misused Flock automated license plate reader data, leading to the termination of a $153,000 contract with the company". This could be a ploy to upgrade to the newer flock cameras in a year or more, the ones that can get into your smart phone via bluetooth using SignalTrace. Does anybody know if axon systems any better than flock? Maybe they will upgrade to flock drones’ systems and get rid of their dji drones? Brave New World? |

I will say Flock has been the whipping boy for "big brother" lately. But seriously, there are so many cameras and surviellance systems out there, why is everyone so freaked out by it? The real time crime centers in most of the city departments are connected to intersection cameras, private entity cameras, city owned park cameras, ring systems, and not to mention the other LPR systems and AXON systems in patrol cars and on police officers and support staff. There are tons of private companies that drive around at night with LPR systems on cars and grab thousands of license plates from every parking lot, city street, highway, etc, and sell that information to other private entities, as well as to Law Enforcement. All of it is data driven. Flock cameras pick up vehicle data and vehicle related data. They don't hold it longer than 30 days, and they don't sell it to 3rd party vendors, it is only law enforcement that has access. We use it in conjunction with the multiple other systems. We solve a lot of crimes by utilizing these systems to find out where criminals drive to and from crimes, develop patterns of criminal activity for stolen vehicles, etc. Big brother is here, and is not going away. Flock is just a small piece of the puzzle. |
