| I along with my wife have had permits for 30 years now. If we don’t plan on traveling to or even through non free states anymore is there a valid reason to keep one? Most of our bordering states if not all have some form of constitutional carry now as well. Different in some ways so you have to check beforehand but just spending 99.99% of the time right here at home I just can’t find a reason to renew mine again. Any insights I’m missing since most states at least allow you to have on in your vehicle? Some require open and some concealed but that’s not a big issue. |

There was the argument that it allowed carry in parks, but I think the courts decided not too long ago that the state had to allow permitless carry in parks. The reasons for having the permit keep getting fewer and fewer. |

It might actually be an advantage not having one since if you happen to get pulled over for speeding or something the cops know you carry. Happened a few years ago to my wife in Brownsville when a cop obviously from a different state had her crying because he was threatening to arrest her because she didn’t inform him she had a gun in the car which we all know is not a requirement here. I gave the police chief a long chat about training his officers on the laws about carrying here. I typically inform the cops out of courtesy but it sure ain’t the law! But I don’t get pulled over much either. Neither does my wife. I forget what that one was about but she didn’t get a ticket. As I’ve gotten older most the time I find myself being the pokey driver except when my turbos kick in on my new Ram pickup. Thanks for the input since I’m a bit behind on Tennessee’s latest laws. I probably should have let that cop arrest my wife since we could have gotten a nice fat check for wrongful imprisonment. She’s plant manager for one of Brownsville’s larger employers. |
