Still waiting for more info on the sale of M14s through the CMP. As I understand it, the threaded barrel and flash hider are a no go for CT, but I’m hoping they offer a pinned/welded muzzle brake option that would be CT legal. Or maybe they can ship to an FFL that can make the modifications? The CT AWB has two sets of semiautomatic detachable magazine rifle feature bans. The current one for centerfire semiautomatic detachable magazine rifles, and a second Jan 1, 2013 one covering all semiautomatic detachable magazine rifles. Where it gets confusing is the threaded barrel evil feature is part of the old Jan 1, 2013 two evil feature ban. Meaning the threaded barrel is fine so long as said rifle does not also have a folding or telescoping stock, or a pistol grip, or a bayonet mount, or flash suppressor, or a grenade launcher mounted or installed at the same time. A flash suppressor all by itself is a banned feature and would make the M-14 a illegal AWB unless one was in the exempted class. If we're lucky SCOTUS will nuke the CT AWB's from orbit with their Viramontes/Grant opinion sometime in the next seven to eight months (by end of June 2027 at the latest). And assuming CT Democrats don't pass more laws to prohibit full featured rifles. I’m also hoping the CT AWB gets repealed soon. The problem would be that in USGI configuration, M14 rifles has a flash suppressor AND a bayonet lug. I bought my M1A after PA 13-3 passed. Though prebans were still legal then, my intention was to have a rifle that was not an AW. The option available was the version with the California compliant muzzle device (a brake instead of a flash hider and no bayonet lug). I too am hoping that CMP will have an option with front end configuration that is state compliant. |
