Long story short, Mr. Chris Rose, a GOA life member was attending the fair with his family. He was denied entry for lawfully openly carrying. The fair grounds and the fair association are owned by government of Bradford County. When Mr. Rose and GOA informed the fair association of their violation, the fair said tough luck and continued to bar Mr. Rose from entering, including threatening him with arrest for trespassing for simply buying a ticket and lawfully openly carrying. Since 790.06(12)(a) specifically lists what is and isn't a gun-free zone, the county was in violation of state law and the agreement the State of Florida signed with GOA in GOA v. Del Toro. Today, the county admitted fault. Mr. Rose was represented by Anthony Sabatini in court.

The state legislature even expanded the geographic boundaries of the district a couple years ago so they could legally build a hospital in Deltona. Advent challenged them in court when they started building there and the court found since Halifax is a special district they could not operate in Deltona. They also have a hospital in Port Orange and couple free standing emergency departments scattered around that all ban firearms and use metal detectors. They try to say that since they have a psychiatric section at the Daytona Beach hospital they can ban guns from the entire network. |
