Howdy y’all, I’m traveling to Idaho at the end of the month for the NSCA Western Regionals at Rock Creek Ranch outside of Boise. I’m not a stranger to Idaho having lived in Idaho Falls some 35 yrs ago but of course has changed. It’s been at least 30 yrs since I’ve been to Boise, does any know when the airport car rentals shut down? Will be carrying a long gun in, anything I need to know about this at the airport? We’re staying close the Rock Creek, some recommendations for local good eats? Safe area? |

Rock Creek Ranch is an excellent place to shoot....you're going to love it. The management is very easy going, they may allow you to camp on the property. Not sure. Be careful when you make the left turn off of 55 at the top of Horseshoe Bend Hill. The Mexican restaurant in Horseshoe Bend is pretty good...eaten there a number of times. There is another restaurant on the Payette River in the same town, which was good the last time I ate there a few years back. You have nothing to worry about in terms of safety...no areas that I would consider bad in the Boise Metro area. You don't need a permit to carry open or concealed here. https://www.nraila.org/gun-laws/state-gun-laws/idaho/ Rock Creek Ranch is close to Eagle and Avimoore, two very wealthy suburbs. Closest hotel accommodations would likely be in/near Eagle near State Highway 55 (Eagle Road) and State Highway 44 (State Street). Highway 55 will have heavy traffic especially on the weekends...it's camping/RV season. I know the Berry’s, the owners of RC, but camping is a no-go for us. I’ll be carrying a long gun, shotgun, so I know the TSA as this isn’t my first rodeo. I’m sure I won’t be the only passenger coming through the airport doing so. I’m flying in around midnight so my question around rental cars. |

Otherwise, they shut down around 1230am. Delta definitely is good with firearms* - pick up at the oversized drop/Delta office all the way at the back past the carousels. *There was a military group coming in from Europe to do some training up at Hat Creek, Euro airline lost their Sako sniper rig, Delta went way far out of their way to call around and see if they could get the guy set up for his course. Ended up locating it, paid for someone to drive it out that evening hundreds of miles so he'd have it for the class. Nice. Southwest and United are pretty squared away as well. Eats: Eagle's best restaurant is COA, but COA's sister restaurant (Barbacoa) in Boise is awesome if you're on someone else's dime. Alavita (Italian) and the Wylder are nice too, if you get to downtown Boise. If you are staying at the hotel corner of Eagle & State, Bardenay Distillery is pretty good, right on the river, basically a good-foodie-brewhouse, but instead of beer, has an in-house vodka and gin still. PS: Eagle can't be TOO "very wealthy". I mean, *I* live there... :D |

Can't help you with the Eagle area as I stay away from it....too many California transplants ruining that area. However, there are some great eats in Boise if you get into town after your match; The James (close to the stadium), Madre Tacos, The Ram, Taj Mahal (Downtown Boise), Westside Drive-In. The biggest issue is going to be traffic on 55 for you. Plan way ahead cause it is terrible especially on the weekends. |

Traffic *can’t* be worse but I always bake in an extra 30 mins or so. Believe were around 12 miles from the club from where were staying. We need to be at the club by 7:30 on that Friday due to shooting an early squad and I’ve got to get my cart, ammo and get registered in so yeah, that day will suck. The brewery/distillery sounds up my alley so I’ll make sure we hit that place up. A chops house would be great especially if they have some game dishes. Is there any cool things to see and do Friday afternoon? |

No never been to Atlanta. But just about the time I get really fed up with traffic here work sends me to Salt Lake City or to Seattle and my rhetoric on traffic backs way off when I return. I actually live in Nampa (20 Miles west of Boise) but most of the good eats are in Boise. Some good upper end steak houses are Chandlers, and Barbacoa Grill and then there is Ruth's Chris but I've never been there. Another pretty cool dining option is Tucanos Grill. It's a Brazilain style place where you go through and get your side dishes at a salad bar and then the servers walk around with all different kinds of meats and slice you off some of what ever they are serving....it is pretty tasty. As far as things to do on a Friday, the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa is definitely worth the visit as is the Old Idaho Penitentiary on the east side of Boise. Not sure what days you will be ion town but the minor league baseball team the Boise Hawks might be playing that night and its not to crowded and usually good seats behind home plate are usually available. |
