Man, NV HTF has been really quiet lately. I'm here to report that I still have no tags, I also struck out in AZ. My brother in law is going to turn in his Rubies archery deer tag, he really inadvertently drew that one anyway. So, it will just be my wife's late spike tag for us this year. I'm still training like I have a Dall tag in my pocket though. So far, I'm down about 25 pounds since April, eating good, training cardio and also with a 75 pound backpack every other day. I'll be 45 this year, 6'3", and usually 220-240, but I'm planning on dropping all the way to 190 and getting in the best shape of my life. Hunting has really motivated me to be able to hike and carry heavy packs, and I'm going to do it this year, tags or not and make it a permanent life change. My luck will be that I'll hit on NV and AZ next year and have too much to do. |
| Hey, good for you! I " look " like I'm in pretty good shape, but damn. I did a simple over night at Kane Springs that kicked my ass. Just a 37 pound pack and some steeper grade. Maybe 4 hours up, camp the night, and three back. I hike, but that backpack was a bit humbling. |

@JoshInReno Good luck on your wife's antelope hunt. I'll be hunting in either 141 or 153 with my daughter on Thur and Fri, it will depend if I drive the Tonopah or Ely route. I'll be in a white Grand Cherokee, so if we cross paths don't forget to give me the secret ARF handsahke. Tom |

I still lift (probably more often than necessary) but I'm spending more time on a stairmaster huffing and puffing. Not my favorite way to spend my time, but its important. Bought a weighted vest to simulate the weight of the pack, rifle, etc. Trying like hell to not let my physical performance be the limiting factor on my bull hunt. |

Wife is all about the meat and said she was going to blast the first thing with horns. 5 minutes into the season at 309 yards she got it done. 2x3 that’s still in velvet oddly enough. Had her on it at 188 yards, but she always has a hard time getting on it with her rifle. Shadow the dog approved as well. Already have it all processed and she is vacuum sealing it now. I slept 3 hours after getting off nights yesterday, drove 5 hours to Wells, slept an hour, and went out and got the deer and processed it. I’m ready for a nap Attached File |

Not big game, but good chukar opener. I limited out in 45 minutes, Mel got her first Chukar as well. Dog did great locating birds when they were down. His mouth is not soft though Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Congratulations to everyone on their successful hunts. My daughter's antelope hunt was a bust due to car troubles shortly after arriving at the unit, and we were never able to work out a good time for us to go back due to her starting school. I did just get back from Wyoming where my son and I had success on filling our antelope tags as well as tagging 4 whitetail does. Afterwards we spent an afternoon shooting up the rest of our ammo at prairie dogs. Tom |
| AZ spring draw results just came out, I got rifle javelina and shotgun turkey, so that's a good start to next hunting season. Really looking forward to rifle javelina, I archery hunted them twice, and came really close but no harvest. While thinking about rifle hunting them, I realized I didn't really have an appropriate gun, so I built a new one just with javelina in mind. If I get one this season I'll just go back to archery, it was such a fun hunt. This javelina unit is completely new for me, so that'll be a fun challenge too. A friend of mine has some property in the turkey unit, so I may be able to hunt on that land, its also a new unit for me. |

Lord help me, this bull tag is kicking my ass. Wind, snow, sub zero windchills, a bunch of pressure and few elk. Had a break in the weather and was able to luck into the bull of my dreams. A rushed shot in a difficult situation was made. It didn't connect.  Now it looks like another storm is moving in again. The pressure is on. That's why it's called hunting- certainly no guarantees. Back at it tomorrow. |
